Paa Kwasi, 35, was shot and killed by police in Adeiso, Eastern Region, for reportedly butchering Yaa Ameyawo, 94, in Domponiase Junction, a neighborhood in the Upper West Akim District of the area. Paa Kwasi was thought to be mentally challenged.
The incident occurred after residents reported hearing screams and witnessing Paa Kwasi attacking Yaa Ameyawo with a machete. Police responded to the scene and, fearing for their safety and that of others, resorted to using lethal force to subdue Paa Kwasi.
Paa Kwasi aggressively assaulted the responding police officers with the machete, and they had no choice but to shoot him to take away his weapon.
According to Citi News sources, Paa Kwasi was shackled in a prayer camp and, after escaping, went directly home, where he allegedly cut his grandma with a machete.
Although it is unknown what motivated him, his relative Agbsei was hurt while attempting to save the elderly mother.
The Nsawam Government Hospital has received the remains of Paa Kwasi and his grandmother, and Agbsei, who suffered injuries, has been admitted and is getting treatment there.
