According to Police Chief Inspector Clement Takyi, prosecuting, both the complainant Mr Felix Amevor, aged 25 and the accused person were residents of Community 17 Lashibi. On December 18, 2022, at about 20:00 hours, the complainant and the accused person were watching the World Cup final match between France and Argentina at a gym belonging to one Ibrahim in Lashibi Community 17.

The accused person suddenly switched-off the lights, which infuriated the complainant. The complainant switched on the lights and stood beside the switch to prevent the accused person from switching it off again. The accused person confronted the complainant, and a misunderstanding ensued between the two parties, leading to a fight.

Both parties were separated by witnesses, but the accused person pulled out a knife from his pocket and used it to stab the complainant in his stomach before running away. The complainant bled profusely and was rushed to the hospital.

Efforts to trace the accused person proved futile, but he later reported himself to the police and was re-arrested and detained for further investigations. The accused person admitted the offense in his cautioned statement but claimed to have acted in self-defense, following the attack on him by the complainant and his friend.

For the most part, the court proceedings have been fair and objective, with bail granted to the accused person while the prosecution is directed to file all necessary documents. The incident is a reminder of the need for individuals to desist from resorting to violence and seek peaceful resolution of disputes.
