The River Oda claimed the life of a 40-year-old guy who was pursuing a grasscutter at the time.
On Sunday, May 7, 2023, the incident took place in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region at Chiransa, close to Senfi.
Three hunters—Kwaku Addai, formerly known as Attah Kuma, Samuel Obinim, and Collins Agyemang—went hunting with their dogs in the jungle on Sunday morning, according to Benjamin Amponsah, the unit committee chairman of the region.
Kwaku Addai recalled, “Fortunately for them, they saw one grass cutter, so they chased it with their dogs, but regrettably, the grasscutter threw itself into the Oda River, so Kwaku Addai also threw himself into the river to grab the animal and unfortunately for him got drowned in it.
All of his friends’ attempts to save him failed, so they hurried home to alert the chairman of the unit committee, who dispatched some neighbours to the situation.
According to reports, those who went to the river’s side were unable to save Kwaku Addai who was drowning.
The body was found on Monday, May 8, 2023, after the incident was reported to the police.
After several ceremonies were carried out by the village elders, the body of the deceased was pulled from the river, according to eyewitness Emmanuel Mensah, who spoke to OTEC News’ Kwame Agyenim Boateng.
He admitted that it shocked him that there were no warning signals that he was drowning.
They believed that the Sunday hunting by the river was a “bad day” and was to blame for the terrible outcome.
Three children and a wife were left behind by Kwaku Addai.
