The prospective summer return of Lionel Messi to Barcelona has advanced significantly. Given that his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of June, the Argentine international has been heavily connected with a fantastical reunion with La Blaugrana.

Despite the fact that Messi still has a 12-month extension option, the PSG club is rumored to be eager to let him go since he is apparently unhappy in Paris.

The prospect of striking a deal to bring him back to Catalonia is still uncertain, though, considering Barcelona’s dire financial situation.

According to Daily Mirror sources, Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, met with Messi’s father, Jorge Messi, and agent to start informal negotiations.

Despite the fact that the 35-year-old didn’t get a formal offer, this is a significant step toward the likelihood of an agreement between the two sides, with Barcelona anticipating making a proposal in the coming weeks.

It was previously reported that Lionel Messi has apparently been in contact with by FC Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste about a potential summer comeback to the team.

Messi moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, but there have been rumors that he may go back to his old team. Messi and Yuste’s communication indicates that Barcelona is considering inviting the Argentine back to the Camp Nou.

Messi’s contract at Parc des Princes included an optional extra year, which he has so far been hesitant to use. Messi is a seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or.

Mundo Deportivo reported on Friday that PSG is prepared to pay Messi “more money and more years” in addition to the “plus one” clause.
