“I’m not happy with the posture of the Electoral Commission (EC) because somebody sitting somewhere will say government is behind it”. These are the remarks of Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, a former member of parliament (MP) for Tema East.
His remarks follow the EC’s restricted voter registration drive, which began on September 12, 2023, despite a request for an injunction by several political parties to stop it.
A number of young voters, especially in rural regions, would be disenfranchised by the exercise at the district offices, according to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and four other political parties.
Titus Glover commented on the situation and criticized the EC for disregarded stakeholder concerns.

He encouraged the organization in charge of managing the elections to take the proper steps to guarantee that the majority of young people participate in the process.
According to Titus-Glover, the continuous restriction on voter registration is “totally out of place” and might compromise the security of the country.
“If there are issues that need to be worked on, I don’t see the need for the rush. Let’s make sure we correct all these challenges that the EC is having so that quickly when these issues are resolved, you (EC) can come up with a date and time to get the registration done,” he added.
Over 1.3 million people who have turned 18 are intended to be registered to vote as part of the continuing restricted voter registration.
On October 2, the 21-day exercise is expected to come to a close in each of EC’s 268 district offices around the country.
