After the National Democratic Congress (NDC) recently demanded the resignation of Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and his deputy officials, private attorney Kweku Yamoah Paintsil got into a heated argument with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader in Parliament.
On Tuesday, August 8, the NDC took a brave position and issued a severe ultimatum, threatening to march to the Bank of Ghana’s offices if Dr. Addison and his deputies didn’t resign within a constrained 21-day period.
The party justified their demand by pointing to what it saw as these high-ranking officials’ negligent handling of the bank.
But in response to the news, Mr. Paintsil sharply criticized Dr. Forson’s conduct on Wednesday’s Dwaso Nsem morning program on Adom FM, especially in light of his existing legal disputes.
Currently, Dr. Forson is being tried on several charges of suspected financial malfeasance in the well-known ambulance case.
Mr. Paintsil was blunt in his criticism of Dr. Forson, calling him a hypocrite for ordering BoG to leave while their case was still in court. It’s really hypocritical.
“They are hypocrites if they maintain those two positions.”
Mr. Paintsil questioned the potential course of action should the Bank of Ghana executives decide not to follow the NDC’s request for resignation, challenging the fundamental principles and standards being promoted.
He rhetorically inquired, “So what are the principles and standards we are talking about?”
