The La Traditional Council in collaboration with the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) is developing strategies to tackle the issue of indecent behaviors among the youth in the Municipality. This decision was reached during a town hall meeting organized by the Council on May 3. The theme of the meeting was “Accounting to the people: our responsibility in ensuring flood-free municipality,” and it provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss various issues affecting the municipality.
During the meeting, stakeholders highlighted the problem of smoking, loitering, and gambling among the youth in the municipality, which has had a negative impact. Speaking on the issue, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Solomon KoteyNikoi, expressed concern that such behaviors exhibited by the youth could prevent responsible leaders from managing the affairs of LaDMA in the future.
To curb these negative behaviors, Mr. Nikoi stated that the assembly would arrest and fine anyone caught engaging in activities such as open defecation and dumping of refuse into the sea and open drainage. The images of those arrested would also be openly displayed to serve as a deterrent to others.
Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, La Shikitele, emphasized the need for an all-hands-on-deck approach to address the issue of indecent behaviors among the youth. He also called on security personnel at the assembly to take charge of the issue and arrest adults who incite the youth to engage in such deviant behaviors.
Aside from the issue of indecent behaviors among the youth, other concerns discussed during the meeting were the construction of La General Hospital and Trade Fair, revenue, health, education, sanitation, and local governance.
The stakeholders agreed that the issue of indecent behaviors among the youth in the municipality is a significant problem that must be tackled with urgency. It was also emphasized that everyone, including parents, guardians, and community leaders, must work together to address the issue. For the most part, it was agreed that the strategies developed must be sustainable and capable of achieving long-term results.
In a nutshell, the La Traditional Council and LaDMA have shown their commitment to addressing the issue of indecent behaviors among the youth in the Municipality. With the support of all stakeholders, it is hoped that the strategies developed will yield the desired results and make LaDMA a better place for everyone.
