Immediately following his 70th birthday celebration two weeks ago, prominent veteran writer Kwesi Pratt Jr. revealed his distaste for birthday celebrations.
The managing editor of the Insight Newspaper claimed that the reason behind his dislike of birthday celebrations is that he had a difficult childhood and was sick on each of his birthdays.
When reflecting on his 60th birthday, Pratt related a funny episode in which he made an effort to elude a surprise party that his family had organized.
“When I was sixty, there was a conspiracy in the family to organize a surprise party and I think that at the last minute, somebody hinted me and I refused to go. I didn’t go. Finally, somewhere in the night, I was virtually kidnapped by Lt. Col. Gbevlo Lartey (Rtd.) and taken to the place,” he humorously recalled.
The grandiose 70th birthday celebration for Pratt was conducted at the Sky Bar in Accra on August 9, 2023, despite his previous reluctance.
An astounding number of notable individuals from numerous areas, including politicians and media icons, graced the event.
The National Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang attended on behalf of the opposition party, while the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare, represented the government.
Legal luminary Tsatsu Tsikata, famous investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, and well-known TV anchor Kweku Sintim Misa were among the notable attendees at the occasion.
Political leaders from the Convention People’s Party, including Nana Yaa Jantuah and Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, also attended the event.
In addition, media figures like Dr. Randy Abbey, Paul Adom-Otchere, and Metro TV’s Annie Afua Ampofo were there.
