Famous Ghanaian media personality Kwami Sefa Kayi responded to the recording that was released of a conversation seeking the removal of Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare between a supposed NPP guru and a police commander.
Kwami Sefa Kayi responded to the recording that has been making the rounds on social media and mainstream media by saying he does not respect the tape since he does not yet know where it came from.
On Tuesday, July 12, 2023, the media figure who was chatting with guests on the Kokrokoo morning programme said that, like many Ghanaians, he was unaware of the contents of the recording that had been leaked about Dampare.
“With the utmost respect, you know that I don’t value cassettes of this nature. I haven’t listened to it, just like you. Everyone I’ve questioned about the audio has either said one way or the other. Where is it coming from is another query I still don’t have an answer for. Who began it? And no one appears to be aware,” Sefa Kayi stated on the Kokrokoo episode from Tuesday.
On July 11, 2023, a leaked audio tape supposedly featuring a police commissioner and a politician outlining a scheme to assassinate inspector general of police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare surfaced.
Both a politician who claims to be a regional chairman of the (NPP) and an officer who introduces himself as “Mensah” can be heard on the video.
They discuss ideas for removing the IGP from office because they worry that he would be too strict before the 2024 elections and prevent any potential rigging.
In addition, the IGP’s handling of the Assin North by-election is expressly cited by the Commissioner of Police as proof of his dedication to guaranteeing free and fair elections.
