Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the First Vice-Chairman of the Kumawu Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared himself the best candidate to lead the party in the upcoming by-election following the demise of the Member of Parliament, Philip Basoah. He expressed confidence that he was the most qualified among the six contestants who were cleared by the party to contest the primary slated for Sunday, April 23, 2023.

Appiah-Kubi, who emerged as the first contestant on the ballot paper, revealed that he had gained a lot of experience over the years as a grassroots person, which has enabled him to initiate several developmental projects in the area. He mentioned his various projects, including extending electricity to schools, establishing an e-learning centre and a sports academy, providing free National Health Insurance Scheme cards for over 600 beneficiaries, and donating exercise books to schools.

Appiah-Kubi, who believes he has a firm grip on the constituency, said that some of the contestants were not even familiar with the electoral areas in the constituency and were not known as well. He promised to make Kumawu Constituency a model for the party and other constituencies to learn from, in terms of unity and development.

During the vetting exercise, two of the contestants, Dr Philip Bannor and Lawyer Edward Osei, were disqualified. The remaining contestants who were cleared to contest in the NPP parliamentary primary in the Kumawu Constituency by-election in the Ashanti Region are Dr Aboagye Dacosta, Opanyin Yaw Baah, Obaapa Ama Serwaa, Ernest Anim, and Owusu Bempah.

In conclusion, the people of Kumawu Constituency will have the opportunity to choose the right candidate to lead the party and represent them in the Parliament House. It is essential that the best candidate with the vision to develop the constituency is elected.
