The Kwahu paragliding site at Atibie is set to receive a much-needed boost as the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has announced the government’s commitment to completing rehabilitation works on the road leading to the Odweanoma Mountain.
Speaking at the opening of the annual paragliding festival on April 7, 2023, Mr. Okraku-Mantey emphasized the importance of fixing the road, which is in a poor condition, to further boost tourism in the area. As a government, we are committed to fixing the road very soon,” the deputy minister assured attendees at the festival.
He went on to explain that tourism was a marketing environment in which everyone could benefit, making it crucial for all Ghanaians to participate. “Let’s make this year’s Kwahu Easter an accident-free event because the event is supposed to bring us together as a people to enjoy and depart unhurt to our various destinations,” he added.
The appeal for the road to be fixed was made by the Chief of Atibie and Gyasehene of Kwahu Traditional Area, Barima Kwame Asante Betiani II. The deputy minister’s pledge to address the issue was welcomed by the local community, and there are signs that work has already begun to fix parts of the road.
However, it is worth noting that the zigzag road to the mountains is still in poor condition, with only a few meters at the entrance and exit having experienced some form of construction works. Despite the challenges, the annual paragliding festival is expected to attract thousands of visitors to the area. It is an opportunity for locals and tourists alike to come together and celebrate Easter in a unique way.
The festival showcases Ghana’s natural beauty and highlights the country’s rich cultural heritage. It is a reminder that tourism has the potential to create jobs, boost the economy, and improve the lives of local communities.
