Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has announced his interest in becoming the flagbearer of the party and the President of Ghana in the 2024 general election. According to Agyepong, he possesses the fresh energy and new ideas that the NPP needs to retain power in the next elections.
In an interview with Blakk Rasta on 3FM’s Urban Blend, Agyepong expressed his concern about the mismanagement of funds by the government, which has resulted in Ghana’s increasing debt. He called for the cutting of waste in the country and the proper management of resources to prevent the need for bailouts from international organizations like the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Transparency and accountability in government were also emphasized by Agyepong, who expressed his disappointment with the Auditor-General’s report’s delay. He stated that he would not hesitate to remove any government officials implicated in the report.
If elected as the NPP’s flagbearer, Agyepong would be a new face on the ballot for the ruling party since 2008. He hopes to bring fresh ideas and energy to the party and lead them to victory in the upcoming elections.
Agyepong’s declaration has generated mixed reactions among party members, with some supporting his candidacy and others preferring a different candidate. However, Agyepong remains resolute in his determination to serve the party and the country.
