Kumawood actor, Emmanuel Afriyie, who is popularly known as Adanko, has narrated his near-death experience with instant justice in the Ashanti Region. Adanko was returning home from a movie set he had worked on when he was attacked and strangled by a man he didn’t know in Maakro near Suame, a suburb of Kumasi. The man accused him of stealing his phone from the car Adanko had alighted from. The situation quickly escalated, and a lot of the Magazine boys rushed towards him, ready to mete out punishment.

The actor was saved from a lynching by one person who recognised him. The person suggested that they search Adanko first, and no phone was found on him. The phone was eventually found in the car Adanko had boarded, and the witness proved that he had not committed the crime. Adanko disclosed that the said movie set was one he didn’t even receive payment for his work. He recounted how sad the experience was and how he could have lost his life for a crime he didn’t commit.

The issue of instant justice in Ghana has become a major concern for many, with many innocent people losing their lives. For the most part, individuals who fall victim to such attacks are never given a chance to prove their innocence. Adanko, who came close to death, cautioned Ghanaians against taking the law into their own hands. He encouraged people to exercise patience in every situation before taking any action.

The situation with Adanko could have easily turned into a tragedy, but he was lucky enough to have been recognised by someone. The actor’s story is a reminder that instant justice is not the answer, and it is essential for people to exercise restraint before taking any action. It is crucial for the Ghana Police Service to improve its response time and effectiveness in handling crimes to ensure that people don’t feel the need to take the law into their own hands.
