Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has acquired 70 Point of Sales (POS) machines to aid its revenue collectors in an effort to improve revenue and minimize human-related flaws in the revenue collection process.

This digitalization process forms part of the assembly’s efforts to improve revenue generation by eliminating under-declaration of revenue, undercutting, underwriting and thefts by revenue collectors.

The Chief Executive of the KMA, Sam Pyne, presented the devices to the revenue collectors and reiterated the importance of the devices in eliminating human shortcomings. He stated that the KMA sought support from its development partners to create a database of all businesses and properties in Kumasi, which necessitated the procurement of these devices.

The Subin, Nhyiaeso, Bantama, Manhyia North, and South sub-metros are the areas that will benefit from the POS machines. The machines will help to collect, print and issue receipts, which will also be recorded in the KMA data room.

The revenue collectors were cautioned against manipulating the devices, as any action that will short-change the assembly will result in ruthless sanctions, including dismissal.

The Presiding Member of KMA, Patrick Kwame Frimpong, urged the revenue officers to work with dedication and help the assembly to increase its revenue to undertake developmental projects in the metropolis. He also charged them to avoid any criminal practices that would lead to their arrest and prosecution.

The Metropolitan Director of Finance, Abbam Adjei, conducted a tour of the specially designed data room at KMA. He explained that the system has been fixed to record payments, and immediately after payment is made, the system issues a command for the printing of receipts, as well as recording the same on the database.

The KMA is committed to collecting all revenue due to them, and the acquisition of the POS machines is a step in the right direction to improve revenue collection and eliminate human-related flaws in the revenue collection process.
