Former Mayor of Kumasi and former executive member of Asante Kotoko, Kojo Bonsu, has advised the management of the club to take drastic measures to restore the fortunes of the club, which has been struggling in recent times. The club is likely to end the season without a trophy, despite participating in three major tournaments.

Kotoko, currently sixth on the league log, with just four matches to end the season, has already been kicked out of the CAF Champions League and the FA Cup. In light of this, Kojo Bonsu has suggested that the club redefine its direction by building an academy and inviting investors to develop the club.

He recalled the golden days of the club, when they won Africa in 1983 and lost to Al Ahly in the finals of Africa in Kumasi. He reminded the current management of the club of the dedication and commitment of players like Papa Arko, Akwasi Appiah, Opoku Nti, Prince Polley, and the rest, who were instrumental in the success of the club.

Kojo Bonsu emphasized the need for academies, just like many clubs across the world, to build a strong team and have dedicated people to do the work. He also called for an investor to pump money into the club, which will help in turning things around for the club.

He stressed that Kotoko needs to rise again and that a proper research must be done to resolve the current problems faced by the club. Consistency in the playing team is also necessary, and the club should not be afraid to be demoted to Division Three to get things done properly.

For the most part, Kojo Bonsu’s message to the management of the club is clear: the club needs to redefine its direction and take drastic measures to restore the fortunes of the club. The need for an academy and an investor to pump money into the club cannot be overemphasized. The current problems faced by the club must be resolved, and consistency in the playing team is essential. In a nutshell, Asante Kotoko must rise again, and proper research must be done to achieve this.
