As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepares for its parliamentary primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 13th, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta Constituency, Mr. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe, has touted his developmental achievements and asked for another four-year term to continue his progress in the area.
During his first term in office, Mr. Gakpe made significant strides in the areas of education, job creation, infrastructure development, health, and other critical sectors. He built a four-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Anlo Afiadenyigba E.P Basic School, renovated a six-unit classroom block at Anyako, and donated tables and chairs to schools to speed up teaching and learning.
In the health sector, Mr. Gakpe initiated free eye screening for over 5,000 residents in his constituency, with over 1,000 beneficiaries receiving free eye surgery to regain their sight. He also supported his people to go through numerous tests for diabetes, hypertension, malaria, and other diseases, with 40 children going through medical surgeries of hernia and others.
The MP also enrolled over 1,000 youths in various apprenticeship fields such as tailoring, hairdressing, carpentry, and others aimed at mitigating youth unemployment in the area.
On the issue of security, Mr. Gakpe donated a total of 800 LED street lights to communities within the constituency, hoping to extend electricity to areas yet to benefit from rural electrification projects.
Furthermore, the MP ploughed farmlands for free for farmers around Lawoshime, Wenyagor, Hatorgodo, and the surrounding communities in a bid to boost agriculture in the area.
In his interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Gakpe appealed to the delegates to vote massively for number one on the ballot paper during the parliamentary primaries for him to retain his seat in Parliament for more development.
Other candidates in the race include Dr. Emmanuel Kojo Jones-Mensa, Madam Enyonam Apetorgbor, Dr. Senanu Kwasi Djokoto, and Mr. Paul Mensah Voegborlo.
For the most part, Mr. Gakpe’s track record speaks for itself, and it is up to the delegates to decide who will represent the party in the upcoming elections. The primaries will serve as a significant indicator of the party’s readiness to take on the ruling government in the 2024 elections.
