A 25-year-old woman named Gina Bryant from Macomb Township went missing. She was supposed to return to work after her lunch break, but she didn’t. Her co-workers became worried when they received strange text messages from her phone. The police believed that she was with her ex-boyfriend, a 26-year-old named Justin Wendling from Holly, Michigan.
It seems that Wendling was waiting at Bryant’s home when she came back for lunch. A neighbor’s camera recorded Wendling guiding Bryant to his car.
The next day, on Friday the 13th of October, Wendling’s parents received a call from their son after he had reached Bettendorf, Iowa. He confessed to them that he had killed Bryant and planned to end his own life. Tragically, Wendling shot himself when approached at a rest area in Bettendorf. Bryant’s lifeless body was discovered at the Flying J with a gunshot wound.
The police in La Salle have video evidence from the truck stop, which shows Bryant trying to escape from Wendling. He, however, caught her, threw her to the ground, and then fatally shot her.
