The government has been given a five-day deadline to implement a suggestion on compensation increases made by the Judicial Council.

However, the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) claims that nothing has been done since the Council presented the report for approval in 2021.

Members of JUSAG are dissatisfied with the delay, according to General Secretary Abdulai Yakubu in an interview with Citi News.

He continued by saying that the current economic situation has made many of its members’ suffering worse, necessitating government attention to the pressing nature of their requests.

According to Abdulai Yakubu, general secretary of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana, “our COLA has been withdrawn, and we don’t have any new salary compelled to our colleagues. We go to the market with the same public workers, and the new taxes have been felt by everyone.”

The association stated in a separate statement, “We refer to our letter dated May 5, The letter requests acceptance of the Judicial Council’s suggestion or advise about the revision of salaries and associated allowances for Judicial Service staff members in accordance with Article 149 of the 1992 Ghanaian Constitution. JUSAG/HQ/NP/052/2023 is the reference number for the letter, which is addressed to the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The Judicial Council’s recommendation for wage increases for its members was filed, and JUSAG handed the government a five-day deadline to act.

Yakubu Abdulai stated during an interview with Eyewitness News on Citi FM that the National Labour Commission has the legal authority to call disputing parties for a peaceful resolution of disputes, but the Association will not relent in its demand for pay raises.

The Association is “a law-abiding organisation, and we will honour the invitation,” he said.
