Former Deputy Transport Minister, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, has denied a fake social media post attributed to her. According to the post, she had called out the Ashanti people for their egos in relation to Dr Kwabena Duffour’s suit against the National Democratic Congress’s upcoming primaries. Joyce Bawa Mogtari dismissed the post, labeling it as fake and coming from a clone account. She accused the government of being behind the creation of several clone accounts to cause public outrage for political opponents.

She urged people to be cautious and report any fake news on social media instead of sharing them across platforms. The former aide to former President John Dramani Mahama said she was grateful for the swift manner in which people shared the fake tweet, but it was better to discount, discredit or report it.

The government recently announced a new initiative to curb the spread of fake news, but Mogtari believes it is a scam to clone accounts of political opponents and set them up for attacks or create disaffection.

For the most part, social media has been a double-edged sword, with the power to spread fake news at the click of a button. The fake news phenomenon is a global problem, with the potential to create panic, fear and uncertainty among people. It is imperative that citizens are educated on how to identify and report fake news to avoid falling prey to these malicious acts.

In a nutshell, the denial of the fake social media post by Joyce Bawa Mogtari highlights the need for individuals to be vigilant in identifying and reporting fake news. It is essential to exercise caution and to verify the authenticity of news before sharing it on social media platforms. Governments have a responsibility to educate their citizens on the dangers of fake news and to take proactive measures to curb its spread.
