The New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is in power, has been charged by former president John Mahama for damaging the economy.
He said, while addressing a crowd in the Netherlands, that since the present administration assumed power, regular Ghanaians have struggled to meet their most basic demands.
“There have been seven years of corruption, seven years of waste, seven years of haughtiness, seven years of impunity, seven years of cronyism, seven years of abuse of power, seven years of violating human rights, and worst of all, seven years of economic incompetence.
According to him, “seven years of careless mismanagement of the economy has left our people broken and struggling from day to day just to survive.”
He clarified that Ghana’s ranking as one of the nations with the worst-performing currencies was due to the careless handling of the country’s economy.
He lamented that Ghana’s economy was presently ranked as one of the worst in the world, placing his country with Sri Lanka and Ghana, Ghana Nkrumah’s favourite nation.
The leader of the National Democratic Congress claimed that the situation of the economy has rendered many enterprises inoperable or driven them to migrate to other nations.
“Inflation is at an all-time high, which has an effect on the costs of basic goods and services and exacerbates the already dire cost of living issue.
“Our nation’s currency, the Ghana cedi, has experienced one of its sharpest falls in decades and was regarded as one of the worst performing currencies in the world a month ago.
He said, “Businesses are under stress and are being forced to the breaking point, with quite a few of them having no choice but to fold up or relocate to our neighbouring countries.”
