John Dumelo, a former actor who is now a farmer, plans to increase the variety of crops he grows by adding cannabis to his list of potential crops.
Mr. Dumelo has stated the expectation that growing cannabis is the most reliable course of action after engaging in the growth of ginger, tubers, cereals, and poultry farming.
His choice follows the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) Bill, 2023’s adoption into law in the parliament on July 12.
If approved, the Interior Ministry will have the right to issue licenses for the industrial or medical cultivation of cannabis with a dry weight concentration of not more than 0.3%.
Mr. Dumelo welcomed the decision and expressed his excitement to be present for the turning point in Ghana’s history.
His twee read; “I’m very excited Parliament has passed the Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023, which seeks to decriminalize the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes. This is a defining moment in Ghana’s history. As a farmer, adding the cultivation of cannabis to my portfolio for medicinal/ industrial purposes is definitely something I’m looking forward to. God bless Ghana. 🙏🏿 #idey4u”
