Jill Dando Parents: Winifred Mary Jean Dando, Jack Dando

Jill Dando was an English journalist, television presenter and newsreader. She worked so many years with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). She was named the BBC’s Personality of the Year in 1997.

Jill Dando spent most of her career, working with the corporation.

At the time, she was one of the most influential media workers, because of the large platform she worked on. Unfortunately, Jill Dando did not live long to see her career blossom.

She was shot to death on the morning of 26 April 1999. She was shot outside her home in Fulham, southeast London.  Her death led to the biggest murder inquiry conducted by the Metropolitan Police.

Jill Dando was born on November 9, 1961, in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England. She was born to Winifred Mary Jean Dando (née Hockey) and Jack Dando.

Her mother Winifred Dando was a kind, gentle and supportive woman. According to Jill Dando, her mother supported her dream.

Winifred Dando worked as a secretary and later became a full-time mother. This was mainly because balancing her role as a mother with work was not easy. She was diagnosed with leukaemia in 1985.

Jill Dando’s mother Winifred died in 1986, aged 57.

Jill’s father Jack Dando was a hard-working man. He worked as a carpenter and joiner. As a very devoted husband and father, Jack was always there for his family. He died in 2009 at the old age of 91.
