The National Democratic Congress (NDC) fans who attacked Citi FM journalist Akosua Otchere on Friday at Odododiodio were denounced by the Information Ministry.
In a statement, the Ministry stated that media outlets or journalists should not be the target of any kind of violence, intimidation, or harassment just for carrying out their duties.
As a result, it has pleaded with Citi FM’s management to officially report the event to the NMC and the Ghana Police Service so that the offenders can face the consequences.
When the journalist was reporting the NDC parliamentary candidates for the Odododiodio seat at the party’s South La headquarters, he was allegedly attacked by one of the candidates’ supporters.
They threw rocks at the vetting committee, claiming they were being unfairly treated, and trashed party supplies including chairs and an air conditioner.
According to reports, Miss Otchere was hurt and sent to the hospital right away.
Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, the regional chairman of the NDC for Greater Accra, has denounced the act and promised to cover any medical costs.
