A group of persons in the Upper East Region treated a lady in an inhumane manner, which has been denounced by the Gender Ministry.
The Ministry stated in a statement dated June 13 that “No matter where, how, or by whom it was perpetrated, violence against women and girls is never acceptable and must never be allowed.”
In it, it was taught that violence against women and girls has negative effects on their physical, mental, and emotional health, and that this harms and stunts their development.
The Ministry vehemently condemns the young woman’s treatment in this harsh, vicious, and inhumane manner. It was underlined in the statement that this action was a flagrant violation of her human rights and dignity and was thus illegal.
Four people have been detained by the Ghana Police Service in connection with the video at Kupelga in the Upper East Region.
Following a preliminary examination into the aforementioned video, the suspects, Awizore Amolt, Akolbila Asorwogo, Atibila Aladago, and Akolbila Ben, were detained in the early hours of Tuesday, June 13, 2023, during a Police intelligence operation.
While attempts are made to apprehend more conspirators so they can face justice, the suspects are now being held by police in order to aid the investigation.
In a statement upon the arrest, the Ministry commended the Ghana Police Service for launching a manhunt for the case’s perpetrators.
The Ministry responded by making an appeal to the general public to provide the police any information that would help identify and apprehend the culprits.
Finally, the Ministry urged the general people to remain vigilant and report anybody who engages in these illegal activities.
