Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, a former leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed astonishment at Sherry Hanny Ayittey’s passing.
Mr. Ofisu-Ampofo expressed his shock and confusion over the abrupt death of the NDC mentor in a statement.
He found the news to be a difficult pill to chew and wondered how it could have occurred.
He continued by praising Madam Ayittey for her contributions to politics, societal advancement, and the expansion of the NDC.
“Indeed, she was a bulwark both in the PNDC era and our present democratic dispensation. She was a pillar in grassroots mobilization for women; a dependable vice-chairperson of mine; and a great loyalist to the ideals of our social democracy.
“We worked in the trenches at all levels (branch, constituency, region, and national) together with compatriots and fought for the NDC’s resilience and victories. She stood tall among reliable leaders at the national headquarters, where she served as my vice-chairperson. This is a blow to our Party; the National Democratic Congress and Ghanaian women in politics,” he mourned.
He also offered the family and the party his sympathy during these trying times.
On Saturday, July 22, 2023, Madam Ayittey, a former minister of fisheries, passed away.
Although the cause of death is unknown, her family’s statement confirming the tragic situation was released.
