Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has reiterated his commitment to rooting out all criminals from the country. “We will never sleep nor rest until this country is at peace with itself,” he said.

The Ghana Police Service has also taken steps to engage the leaders of the country’s two major political parties in a bid to maintain peace and order. The Service met with the governing New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Democratic Congress to discuss recent political disagreements.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service urged both parties to focus on politics while allowing the police to carry out their constitutional mandate.

“They should do their politics and allow the Police to do policing. We, therefore, called on them to support us including by criticizing us constructively to do a professional job in line with our constitutional mandate,” the statement read.

The Inspector-General of Police’s assurance comes amid growing concerns over the level of crime in Ghana. The country has recently experienced a spate of criminal activities, including fraud and human trafficking. However, the police administration, under Dr Dampare’s leadership, has stepped up efforts to fight crime and ensure the safety of all Ghanaians.
