According to feisty sports broadcaster Countryman Songo, Black Stars captain Andre Ayew was reportedly harassed by Chris Hughton during the team’s AFCON qualifying match against Angola.

When it came time to select a head coach for the Black Stars, Songo—real name Patrick Osei Agyemang—said the Ghana Football Association had consulted Ayew on the viability of hiring Chris Hughton and Kwasi Appiah as the team’s captain.

The decision to bench Ayew for the first leg of the March 23 doubleheader against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium was made by the coach, according Songo, in response to Ayew’s view on Chris Hughton, which he allegedly discussed with the president of the Ghana Football Association.

“When asked if he thought Kwasi Appiah was the best person for the position, the player said that Appiah is a local coach who, with the correct backing, will do a terrific job with the squad. He said that Kwasi Appiah is familiar with the area and has experience playing football in Africa.

“The president also questioned him, and he endorsed him, but he said he will only succeed if he is allowed to bring his own backroom personnel. Why is said a problem?

About what would be beneficial to any of the coaches, he was honest. The newest episode of his Fire for Fire show on Adom TV had him asking, “So what sin did he commit?
