Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has expressed his dissatisfaction with some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who believe that it’s not the right time for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become the party’s flagbearer.
Dr. Bawumia, who is Ghana’s current Vice President, has been one of the leading figures in the NPP, and he has made it clear that he wants to run for the position of flagbearer and eventually become Ghana’s next president. The NPP flagbearer election is scheduled to take place in November this year, and Dr. Bawumia is expected to be a strong contender.
However, some members of the NPP believe that Dr. Bawumia’s bid for the presidency is not timely, and they have been making statements to that effect. Hon. Annoh-Dompreh, however, disagrees with them and has warned them to stop their negative campaign against the Vice President.
Speaking at the launch of an NPP volunteer group called “Digital Ladies for Bawumia” in Nsawam, Hon. Annoh-Dompreh said that those who go around saying “it’s not his turn” will receive the response they deserve. He stated that he would not stand by while others disparage Dr. Bawumia’s numerous accomplishments and years of dedication to the NPP.
Hon. Annoh-Dompreh revealed that Dr. Bawumia had been in party leadership positions as early as 2001 and had even led a delegation to foreign nations to conduct negotiations while John Agyekum Kufuor was President. He also urged delegates in his area to be welcoming to any potential flagbearer who visits them to campaign, but he emphasized that the “DMB Project” is still on track.
For the most part, Hon. Annoh-Dompreh’s remarks reflect the strong support that Dr. Bawumia enjoys among many members of the NPP. While there are some who believe that it’s not his time, others are convinced that he is the best candidate to lead the party and Ghana. The upcoming flagbearer election will be a crucial test of Dr. Bawumia’s popularity and political skills, and it remains to be seen whether he will emerge victorious.
