The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has pledged to support Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) Ghana as it expands its services beyond the petroleum downstream sector. SML Ghana, which specialises in revenue and assurance audit services, plans to expand its operations to other sectors, including mining and upstream oil and gas. At a stakeholder engagement between the Board of the GRA and SML Ghana, Board Chairman Tony Oteng-Gyasi praised the audit and assurance technology company for implementing effective digital controls. The controls have resulted in fewer restatements and increased revenue for the government, he said.

GRA Commissioner-General Rev. Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah said the tax authority plans to apply data in revenue collection efforts, and will examine other sectors where SML’s audit processes could help close the country’s revenue gap. He urged SML Ghana to continue to invest in innovative measures, and to maintain relationships with key stakeholders to enrich audit quality and improve revenue mobilisation processes.

SML Ghana Managing Director Christian Tetteh Sottie said the purpose of the engagement was to detail the company’s technology-driven approach to improving revenue collection. Since 2020, SML’s efforts have been instrumental in aiding the tax authority to exceed its revenue collection targets. The Customs Division of GRA, which includes the petroleum downstream sector, exceeded its target by GH¢2.06 billion to achieve revenue of GH¢22.26 billion last year, thanks in part to SML Ghana’s technology deployment.

SML Ghana is a wholly-owned Ghanaian company with two main divisions specialising in audit services of downstream petroleum products, trade transaction pricing and business process audits. The company’s reputation is built on consistently exceeding client expectations, with a workforce of Ghanaian professionals and experts in fields including petroleum engineering, business analysis, information technology and project management.
