Ghana’s First Female Cardiothoracic Surgeon Aims to Specialize in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

Dr. Penelope Adinku, Ghana’s first and only female Cardiothoracic Surgeon, has announced her plans to specialize in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, with hopes to gain experience from high-volume centers in India. In an interview with The Natalie Fort Show on GHOneTV, Dr. Adinku shared her aspirations to become one of the best Pediatric Cardiac Surgeons in the world and return to Ghana to share her knowledge with others.

Dr. Adinku noted that there is still work to be done to break gender stereotypes in male-dominated fields, such as Cardiothoracic Surgery. She emphasized that women should strive to bring something worthwhile to the table and consistently sharpen their skills to excel in the medical field.
