Genk and Ghanaian winger, Joseph Paintsil, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Ebony Shoe Award in Belgium after a stellar performance in the Belgian Pro League this season. The award, which is given annually to the best African or African-origin player in the Belgian League, is determined by votes from coaches of league clubs, the Belgium national team manager, sports journalists, and one or more honorary jurors.

Paintsil, 25, has been in exceptional form for his club this season, scoring 15 league goals and providing 12 assists. He has played a pivotal role in helping his team finish on top of the log at the end of the regular season and remain in contention for the ultimate title as they battle four other teams in the Championship playoff.

The Ghanaian winger will face stiff competition from four other nominees, including his Genk teammate, Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye, Moroccan midfielder Bilal El Khannous, and Nigerian duo Emmanuel Gift Orban and Victor Boniface.

In the past, notable African players such as Paul Onuachu and Morocco’s Tarik Tissoudali have won the award. However, the only Ghanaian to have ever won the award is former Black Stars defender Eric Addo, who was crowned in 1998.

For the most part, the Ebony Shoe Award is a highly sought-after prize in Belgium’s football circles, and being nominated for it is a significant accomplishment for any African player in the league. Paintsil’s nomination is a testament to his impressive form this season, and if he wins the award, it will be a significant boost to his career.

In a nutshell, Joseph Paintsil’s nomination for the Ebony Shoe Award is a significant achievement for the young Ghanaian winger. His impressive performance this season has not gone unnoticed, and his nomination for the award is well-deserved. We wish him the best of luck in the competition.
