Marilyn Abrokwah, a Ghanaian-American citizen and student of Mercy High School in Middleton, Connecticut, USA, has made a donation of food and clothing items to students of OLA Senior High School (SHS) in Ho. The donation is part of Ms Abrokwah’s school project and her desire to establish a relationship between her school and OLA SHS. The two schools are Roman Catholic high schools, and Ms Abrokwah expressed her hope that the donation would open the way for further engagements and an exchange programme between them.

Rev. Father Delase Parku, who presented the items on behalf of Ms Abrokwah, urged the management of OLA SHS to take advantage of the opportunity to bond with their counterpart in the USA. Benedicta Agbezudor, the Headmistress of OLA SHS, commended Ms Abrokwah for the gesture and pledged that the items would be put to good use for the benefit of the students.

Ms Abrokwah chose OLA SHS for the donation partly because it was her mother’s alma mater. This gesture has been received with great appreciation, especially by the beneficiaries of the donation. It is always heartwarming when people extend a helping hand to others, especially when it comes to education, which is vital for the growth and development of our nation.

It is noteworthy that such a gesture from a Ghanaian-American citizen shows that we can all contribute to the development of education in Ghana, regardless of where we find ourselves in the world. Ms Abrokwah’s donation is a step in the right direction, and it is our hope that others will follow suit to help the education sector in Ghana grow and become better.
