“The Ghana we have today is obviously not what our founding fathers envisioned,” Togbe Afede XIV, the Paramount Chief of Asogli state, has bemoaned.

“We have failed woefully but have pretended otherwise,” he emphasised.

Instead of providing optimism, Ghana’s leaders, he claims, have generated a terrifying sense of powerlessness among the public, particularly the youth.

Referring to a comment he made during a courtesy visit by the Speaker of Parliament in December 2021, he restated his fear that Ghana, if it were a corporation, would have declared bankruptcy.

He cited the country’s request for a bailout from the IMF, as well as the implementation of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which resulted in debt default, significant losses for government bondholders, and a bleak economic outlook.

According to him, “despicably dishonest, corrupt, reckless, arrogant, and divisive leadership” has driven the country to its knees.

Ghanaians, he claims, are also victims of poor fiscal and monetary policy.

Fortunately, he ascribed Ghana’s relative peace and stability to the tenacity and patience of Ghanaians, and he hoped that this would continue.

The intelligent businessman remarked that he understands what it is like to endure, which is why he would continue to offer his opinions on the country’s development difficulties.
