The event, which was organized to raise awareness of the potential of sports to foster peace and promote development within communities, was also an opportunity for the youth to have fun while enhancing their physical and mental well-being.

According to the GFDA, sports, especially disc sports like Ultimate Frisbee, have the potential to promote peace and development in diverse ways. The GFDA’s objective for the day was to enhance awareness of Ultimate Frisbee and other disc sports athletes on the power of sports to promote peace and development.

The event also created an opportunity for community girls to get involved in sports for good health and well-being.

Speaking at the event, the GFDA President, Mr. Desmond Kwame Mantey, encouraged the youth to take up disc sports seriously, as it has a strong potential to enhance their physical and mental health as well as moral behavior. He emphasized that discipline is one of the key elements of Ultimate Frisbee, urging the youth to embrace discipline at all times and in all things.

GFDA hopes that the event will trigger a sense of responsibility among the youth to be more friendly with each other, fostering peaceful co-existence at school and within their various communities.

As a partner to the United Nations World Urban Campaign, GFDA plans to roll out programmes in the coming months aimed at youth development and gender equality. This will ensure that more young people, especially girls, have access to sports for development and peace.
