Ghana Football Association (GFA) warns betting companies illegally taking bets on Ghana Premier League matches without permission from the association. The GFA granted permission to betPawa, the headline sponsor of the league, to take selected bets on the remaining nine matchdays of the season.

In a statement on the GFA website, the association highlighted that it is the owner of all marketing, commercial, and other rights associated with the Ghana Premier League, as well as other products of the GFA. It also cautioned all betting companies to desist from placing odds on Ghana Premier League matches without necessary authorization from the GFA.

The GFA emphasized that it had warned betting companies in the past, and the current warning is final. Lawyers of the association will proceed to court without further warning to the recalcitrant companies if they fail to comply with the regulations. “The GFA seriously frowns on such flagrant violation of the marketing and commercial rights of the Ghana Premier League and will not countenance any ambush marketing on its product,” the statement added.

The GFA stated that betPawa has been granted temporary permission for the remaining eight matchdays of the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League season, paving the way for a full engagement on a separate agreement next season. The association warned that it will take action against betting companies that place odds on Ghana Premier League matches without authorization.

As of now, Aduana is at the top of the table after 26 games, leading by three points over Medeama, with defending champions Asante Kotoko in fifth and Hearts of Oak lying third. Football enthusiasts in Ghana are looking forward to an exciting end to the season and hope that the GFA’s actions will ensure fair and legal betting practices in the country.
