According to Gary Nimako, director of legal affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), “There was no better forum than the GBA conference for Akufo-Addo to respond to Mahama,”

The President rebuked Mr. Mahama for claiming that he had crammed the judiciary with judges who supported the NPP during his Monday speech at the Bar Conference in Cape Coast.

Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to reject the NDC in the forthcoming 2024 presidential election, calling the former President’s assertions highly dangerous.

The President’s actions have now been denounced by the Ghana Bar Association, which has also urged all politicians to respect the independence of the legal profession by refraining from political speech during conferences.

On Adom FM’s morning program Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Nimako responded to the situation by claiming that Mr. Mahama’s remark was an assault on the legal community and the independence of the courts.

Thus, he said, President Akufo-Addo’s response when he also visited the bar conference, which served as a forum for attorneys, was simply a step in the right direction.
