Sylvester Tetteh, a member of parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, has taken issue with Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the former chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), over his contentious galamsey report.
The legislator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is adamant that the study is worthless and unhelpful.
The former minister of the environment, science, technology, and innovation accused a number of high ranking government officials on April 20 of being involved in the threat posed by illicit mining.
The well-known cardiac surgeon revealed that the decay extends to the Jubilee House, the nation’s administrative center.
He emphasized that certain government officials were fabricating the claims that 500 missing excavators were taken from illegal miners in 2020 in order to push him off.
Calls for accountability from those involved in illicit mining activities as well as government authorities have increased after his announcement.
However, in April 2023, Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney General, recommended that the 36-page document headed “Report on the work of IMCIM so far and the way forward,” prepared by Prof. Frimpong Boateng, be given minimal consideration.
Mr. Dame stated that the report’s conclusions were his opinion and that further research was necessary to confirm their veracity.
Responding to these events on Saturday, October 14, on JoyNews’ Newfile show, Mr. Tetteh praised the AG for characterizing the report as meaningless.
According to him, the well-known surgeon is resentful that he is no longer in President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
He claims that because of this resentment, the esteemed professor is singling out government officials in an effort to turn public opinion against them.
“He is the funniest man I have come across within our political space and he knows why I am saying that. In any case, the title of this report is useless.
“He is targeting people because he has been ousted from government. His report is a useless piece of paper and the Attorney General has said the same and investigations have proven the same. He is bitter because he has been ousted from government.”
