Attacks on members of the Nii Odoi Kwao Family who had traveled to Nima to carry out customary ceremonies during the Homowo holiday have been denounced by the GaDangme Council.
Some angry youths attacked the family members who were supposedly at Nima to sprinkle Kpekple.
The Council said in a statement that the family was attacked because a fake “mantse” (chief) organized the youngsters to oppose the ceremonies.
“The youth concerned were reportedly mobilised by a rival stranger mantse, some settlers without the knowledge and consent of the landowners’ competition to another mantse which had led to pent-up feelings and heightened tensions within the community,” portions of the statement read.
The Nii Odoi Kwao Family is reportedly the allodial proprietor of Nima, according to the Council.
The Council is that an unreserved apology be given to the family and the whole GaDangme community for the youth’s disrespectful behavior.
“We unreservedly condemn the incident and warn against any repetition. We further demand an unqualified apology from those behind and involved in what happened. We note that such acts of challenge to allodial land owners by strangers can lead to forfeiture of their right to remain on the land,” the statement demanded.
