While Mr. Akwetey has already paid GHc20,000.00 as fees for nomination papers, the other three were expected to pick and file their forms by May 11.

The CPP flagbearership timetable outlines that the fees for the nomination forms are GHc20,000.00, the filing fees are GHc200,000.00, and the grassroots mobilization funds are GHc230.000.00.

Aspirants were expected to complete and file nomination papers on or before May 11, 2023. Nominees will be vetted on May 12 and 13, 2023. The National Executive Council meeting is slated for June 9, 2023.

The CPP’s Presidential Delegates Congress is scheduled for June 10, 2023. The party’s presidential candidates will be announced on June 12, 2023.

For the most part, the CPP has been making steady preparations for its primaries. The party has always been a significant player in Ghanaian politics, and it will be interesting to see who comes out as the flagbearer. It is hoped that the eventual winner will be able to unite the party and provide a strong challenge to the incumbent government in the 2024 elections.

As we wait for the primaries to take place, it is important that the aspirants and the party leaders conduct themselves in a peaceful and respectful manner. Ghana needs a strong opposition to provide a balance in the country’s politics, and the CPP has a crucial role to play in this regard.
