During a Thursday anti-robbery and anti-land guard operation in Bortianor, Accra, five suspects were shot by the police.
Four weapons were also found at the location of the operation by the police.
“On June 8th, 2023, the police carried out an operation against criminal groups involved in robberies and land guard operations. According to a statement made and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, “These individuals had been terrorising locals and landowners in Bortianor and neighbouring communities.”
According to the report, the suspects opened fire from their cover when they spotted the approaching Police squad, leading the police to retaliate.
According to the statement, five of the suspects suffered injuries as a consequence and were subsequently declared dead at a hospital. The other suspects ran from the scene and are now at large.
According to the report, evidence recovered from the crime scene included an AK-47 assault rifle, 10 rounds of AK-47 ammo, a pump action gun with nine BB cartridges, two pistols with 10 rounds of 9mm ammo, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was not registered, four motorbikes, three of which were unregistered, a knife, and pepper spray.
According to the statement, the Police are aggressively looking for the remaining suspects, some of whom are said to have been shot during the operation.
The general public, especially those in the Bortianor neighbourhood, was urged to report any victims of gunshot wounds who could be in need of medical attention as away.
The statement read, “Your cooperation will help the Police take immediate action.”
