Former NDC Central Regional Chairman Bernard Allotey Jacobs, who has now ceased joining the NDC, expressed his regrets for being a part of Ghanaian politics. He specifically stated his greatest guilt was joining the National Democratic Congress.

During a panel discussion on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show on Wednesday morning, Allotey Jacobs expressed his disappointment in politicians and their inability to speak the truth, calling them the bane of the country. “We are wasting this country. The life of Ghana is being wasted by politicians because we don’t speak the truth,” he exclaimed.

Allotey Jacobs made these comments in relation to the Ghana Police Service engagement with the two largest political parties, the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress on Monday, April 17th. The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, assured both parties of their impartiality in enforcing law and order and cautioned them against interfering with the work of the Police. Dr. Dampare also briefed the parties on some initiatives the Police Service has implemented under its Police Transformation Agenda to enhance security in all elections.

Allotey Jacobs further noted that Ghana’s politics needs a major transformation and there should be clean politics, not politics of deceit, but truthful politics. He stated, “we have maligned people in this country. We’ve character assassinated people in this country, but we have reached a stage where there should be clean politics.”

In conclusion, it is crucial for politicians to speak the truth and to avoid making statements that can potentially stoke violence and chaos. As Allotey Jacobs said, “we have reached a stage where our politics should be clean. Clean politics, not politics of deceit but truthful politics. Let us digest the truth and tell the people the truth.
