Former Kotoko Executive Member Urges Club to Establish an Academy for Young Talents

Kojo Bonsu, a former executive member of Asante Kotoko, has urged the management of the club to prioritize the establishment of an academy to house young talents. According to Bonsu, an academy will facilitate a smooth transition of young players into the senior team and enable the club to achieve long-term goals.

He explained that without an academy, the club will continue to rely on instant replacements every time a top player departs, which is not sustainable in the long run. Bonsu noted that proper scouting is crucial in setting up a standard academy that will ensure the sustainability of the club’s success.

Bonsu, who is currently a flagbearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress, advised the club to be patient and give management the time it needs to run the club. He emphasized that building a proper system takes time, and the club must be willing to invest in the process.

Asante Kotoko’s title defense in the Ghana Premier League has been challenging, with the team currently in sixth place, eight points behind Aduana Stars. The club aims to get back to winning ways after failing to win in their previous two matches. They are set to play against Bibiano Gold Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

Despite their current challenges, the call for the establishment of an academy will be a significant step towards ensuring long-term success for the club. An academy will not only serve as a breeding ground for young talents but will also help retain the best players for more extended periods. This move will undoubtedly increase the club’s chances of winning more titles and competing successfully on the continent.

For the most part, Bonsu’s advice aligns with the club’s vision of achieving long-term success, and it is up to the management to take the necessary steps towards making it a reality.
