Five people have successfully filed nominations to run in the next New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Western North Region’s Sefwi-Wiawso Constituency.
After the nomination period ended on Monday, December 25, four men and one woman have submitted candidacy papers to run in the elections.
Festus Bumangamah Agyapong, Atta Boamah, Dr Francis Xavier Andoh-Adjei, Martin Bonye, and the party’s Regional Women Organizer, Golly Antwi Bosiako are among them.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Constituency Secretary Emmanuel Atta-Marfo stated that vetting of applicants will begin between January 3 and 5, 2019.
He urged contenders and supporters to undertake non-insulting campaigns in order to assist the party preserve peace and unity before, during, and after the primaries.
The current Member of Parliament for the region, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, won the Wiawso parliamentary seat for the first time in 2016 with 31,736 votes, defeating National Democratic Congress (NDC) Evans Paul Aidoo, who received 26,206 votes.
He maintained his seat in the 2020 general election but has opted to resign when his second term ends.
