The Bonwire District Court has remanded a fetish priest on trial for allegedly shooting a young woman as she returned from a watch night service in Kenyase-Abirem on December 31st.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was in a tricycle with her one-year-old daughter, sister, and a rider when the event occurred.
On that fatal day, the fetish priest, Nana Yaw Kwarteng, allegedly fired several warning shots in the vicinity.
Lydia Bohitana, 22, was shot and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
On Friday at Bonwire District Court, the prosecution announced that the case’s docket had been referred to the Attorney General’s office for guidance.
The court, presided over by Her Worship Grace Osei, ordered the accused to jail imprisonment and postponed the case to February 2, 2024.
Speaking to Citi News during the court sessions, the deceased’s family emphasized the importance of justice in the case.
They also stated that they are living in dread as a result of the event and have requested greater protection in the neighborhood.
