The family of a 35-year-old entrepreneur slain by her housekeeper in Sokoban, Ashanti region, has asked the Attorney General to provide urgent guidance on the issue and secure an accelerated hearing.
This comes as the prosecutor in charge of the case revealed in court that the police have completed their investigations and are awaiting instructions from the Attorney General before proceeding with the committal procedure.
There was a high security presence at the Asokore Mampong District Court as officials attempted to prevent some members of the grieving family from attacking the suspects at the last court session, when they went on a rampage and attempted to attack the accused.
The main suspect, who is already serving a 20-year sentence for stealing, and his suspected accomplice, James Anokye, were both in court.
Following the discovery that the police are awaiting guidance from the Attorney General’s office, the court postponed the case to October 31, 2023.
Speaking to press following the court hearings, the deceased’s family encouraged the Attorney General to accelerate the trial, especially since the key suspect admitted to perpetrating the atrocity.
“What we the family are expecting is justice. As I always say, justice delayed is justice denied. This guy has already confirmed that he has committed the crime so we don’t need any delayance. We want them to do it fast. We are willing to follow this case everywhere” the family said.
