Irish actor Jamie Dornan reflects on his time in Australia while filming Season 1 of The Tourist, a Stan Original series that has returned for a second season. Dornan, who played ‘The Man,’ recalls the gripping opening scene in which his character experiences a heart-stopping car chase and is subsequently rammed off the road in the South Australian outback, leading to amnesia.
“It’s been great to get the band back together,” Jamie revealed to 9Entertainment.
“There’s loads more [stunts] in the second series, but nothing as extreme as the accident in the first series which was a huge set piece.”
“We took two weeks I think to shoot that opening, and so much was about that and setting the tone of the show,” he revealed.
“I definitely fling myself around Ireland a fair bit in the second series and get roughed up a lot,” said Jamie about the epic action-packed season.
“I think they enjoy watching me go through these sort of things, they think it’s funny,” he said of the show’s crew and writers.
Despite the intense storyline, Dornan expresses satisfaction with his role, “I like it, I like throwing stuff around I still feel really young so I enjoy that side of it,” he smiled. “That is a part I sincerely enjoy.”
The actor notes the contrasting settings between the red outback in Australia and the lush greenery of Ireland, anticipating a “totally different energy” while filming in the latter.
“I think it’s really interesting because there’s such a harshness to the Australian outback, it’s a massive part of the show. Tonally it added so much to the desperation and sort of lostness that Elliot was going through,” he continued.
“It was a real easier shoot than being out in the outback for all that time,” laughed Jamie.
“In many ways it feels like a different second show,” he said of the second season.
“It takes on its own new energy… But is still so true to the tone and absurdity of The Tourist.”
The Tourist’s Season 2 has recently premiered, continuing the mystery thriller’s compelling narrative.
