Afu was one of eight suspects who escaped from police custody on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. The incident occurred when a female police officer on duty was about to lock the cells for the night. The suspects, including Afu, allegedly overpowered the officer and fled from custody.

The police launched a manhunt and after a few days, were able to re-arrest Afu. However, his suicide attempt has raised concerns over the wellbeing of suspects in police custody.

The incident has led to calls for better security measures to be put in place in police cells to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The police are yet to comment on the incident, but sources say investigations are ongoing into the attempted suicide.

This incident serves as a reminder of the need for better security in police cells to prevent the escape of suspects and ensure their safety while in custody.
