Eric Sakyi Nketiah, a Senior lecturer at the Department of History at the University of Education – Winneba, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consider a new face as its forerunner for the 2024 presidential elections. Nketiah, who is also a presidential hopeful, believes that the party’s mantra, Breaking the Eight, requires urgent action and a strong push for its realization. He emphasized that the success of the party in the upcoming elections depends on a new leader with fresh ideals and vision for revolution, change, and continuity.
According to Nketiah, the gap between the party and Breaking the Eight is very small, but it requires strength to cross. He urged the NPP delegates to consider the interest of the party as one aiming for revolution and change to retain power. Nketiah is convinced that the ruling NPP will retain power, but a new face is needed to ensure that the party becomes a party of revolution, change, and continuity at the same time.
Nketiah disclosed this during an interview on Ahenkan FM’s “Maakye” morning show after officially announcing his candidacy and campaign strategy ahead of the flagbearership race. He further emphasized that John Mahama’s return for the presidential seat reduces the NDC’s chances of winning the elections as Ghanaians have already experienced the ex-president’s leadership.
Nketiah urged the NPP delegates not to repeat the mistake of electing an old face as the flagbearer for the party. He believes that he is the new face that the NPP needs to break the eight in the upcoming 2024 general election. Nketiah has a wealth of experience in leadership, governance, and institutions, making him the ideal candidate to lead the party to victory.
For the most part, Nketiah’s call for a new face to lead the NPP is timely and critical, as the party seeks to retain power in the upcoming elections. The NPP needs a leader with fresh ideas and vision to drive the party’s agenda for revolution, change, and continuity. Nketiah’s experience in leadership, governance, and institutions makes him the ideal candidate to lead the party to victory in the 2024 elections.
