Eric Sakyi Nkatiah, a renowned educationist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has expressed his intention to contest in the upcoming Presidential Primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He made this announcement in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) where he highlighted his desire to contribute to decision-making and the development of the nation at the highest level of leadership.
Mr. Nkatiah, who is a card-bearing member of the NPP, was born in Sunyani in the Bono Region and has a strong background in History Education. He has published several academic works including “A History of Women in Politics in Ghana, 1957-1992” and “Beyond the Lecture Hall: What University Students Do Not Hear at Lectures”.
Having been involved in student activism and leadership activities during his time as a student at Saint Peter’s Senior High School and the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Mr. Nkatiah has a keen interest in leadership activism. He has also served on the governing council and academic board of UEW, as well as the Board of the Faculty of Social Science Education.
In his interview with GNA, Mr. Nkatiah stated that his decision to contest the Presidential Primaries was not taken lightly. He consulted with party grassroots and carefully considered his options before making the difficult decision to run. He pledged to abide by the processes put in place by the party for the smooth conduct of the Primaries and, if given the nod, to work with all members of the party, particularly the grassroots, to break the eight-year cycle of party governance.
For the most part, Mr. Nkatiah’s announcement has been met with enthusiasm from supporters and members of the NPP. Many have lauded his impressive academic and leadership credentials, and his commitment to using his expertise for the betterment of the country.
