The Anto-Aboso quarry site, where an explosion took five lives and wounded others, has been deemed a no-go area by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
This was announced by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Henry Kokofu, during Monday’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Adom FM.
He said that EPA representatives had been sent to the location to assess the problem.
Dr. Kokofu declared on Wednesday that EPA will consult with the Chamber of Mines and Association of Quarries to prevent such incidents in the future.
Action will be done, he said, adding that anyone found responsible at the conclusion of the investigations won’t be spared.
“If it happens that there was something the EPA was supposed to do and we didn’t, we will be honest enough to come out about it. We will take the necessary steps to prevent this from happening again,” he assured.
The Anto-Aboso quarry site’s operation, according to the Minerals Commission, was unlawful.
The Commission noted in a statement that the suggestion for the business to be taken into consideration for the award of a formal lease was approved on March 20, 2023.
However, according to the Minerals Commission, the corporation had not yet received a lease from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources at the time of the explosion.
